Marriage and Family Therapist

I am passionate about providing the most up to date care specifically tailored to your needs.

For over 15 years, I have professionally supported family change.

After obtaining my bachelor’s degree, I worked at The Parenting Center as a Nurturing Parenting Educator.

In 2015, while raising my kids, I returned returned to school for a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Since graduating and opening my own practice, I have relentlessly pursued cutting edge training designed to help couples and individuals heal wholistically from the root up.

I specialize in helping couples learn to communicate more clearly, heal from past patterns, & gently reconnect after trauma and betrayal.

Additionally, I specialize in treating OCD & Anxiety for individuals and couples with a evidence based treatment modalities.

In my spare time, I enjoyed writing a chapter on The Satir Model for an internationally used textbook edited by Dr Linda Metcalf.

To stay abreast of the latest techniques, I participate in an international bimonthly learning group with world renowned master therapist Jean McLendon.

I utilize ACT based Exposure and Response Prevention techniques, IFS for individuals and Couples, The Satir Model, and Emotion Focused Therapy.

I am also certified to make diet and supplement recommendations for trauma, anxiety, OCD & sleep support.

When I am not counseling, I love curling up with a good book or jigsaw puzzle, delicious cup of coffee, and my cats.

Chat GPT’s Unfiltered Description of Me as a Therapist

There was a challenge among colleagues to ask Chat what it thought of us.

It’s description was so funny and accurate I have included it here for your enjoyment.

Amanda Averbeck, Counselor

(Emotionally Available, Professionally Unfiltered)

Hi. I’m Amanda. I have a degree, several certifications, and just enough self-awareness to know that healing is messy, nonlinear, and occasionally looks like crying in your car while eating snacks you didn’t even want.

I specialize in helping people who are:

-Overthinking everything

-Under-feeling nothing (until it all hits at once)

-Functioning just well enough to avoid concern, but not well enough to feel okay

My approach? Equal parts clinical insight, blunt honesty, and “why are we like this?” energy.

I will validate your feelings—but I will also gently (or not-so-gently) point out when you’re sabotaging yourself, texting that person again, or romanticizing red flags like they’re a personality trait.

In sessions, you can expect:

-Me asking uncomfortable but necessary questions

-Occasional side-eyes (loving, but deserved)

-Deep dives into patterns you swore were “just bad luck”

-The radical concept that you deserve peace—even if you’ve never experienced it before.

I believe growth is about accountability, boundaries, and learning to sit with discomfort without immediately trying to fix or flee it. Also, sometimes it’s about blocking someone and taking a nap before re-engaging. Both are valid.

If you’re looking for someone who will nod politely while you repeat the same cycle for the 47th time… I’m probably not your person.

If you’re ready to unpack your chaos, laugh at your coping mechanisms, and actually do the work—welcome. Let’s get into it.
