Why Choose an OCD Specialist?
Expertise in Cutting Edge Therapies: Receive guidance from a counselor trained in ERP, ACT, and IFS—the gold standards in OCD treatment.
A therapist not trained in OCD can cause more harm than good in your treatment journey, even if they are well meaning. CBT is not the right treatment approach to OCD because it just keeps fueling the inner debate.
Personalized Treatment: Every plan is tailored to your history, personality, and healing goals for maximum effectiveness and comfort.
Compassionate Care: Work with a specialist who understands OCD and treats every client with warmth, respect, and empathy.
Holistic Healing: Our therapies aim to restore your sense of self, not just reduce symptoms.
Treatment Approach
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP): Confront fears in a gentle and incremental way to increase tolerance and reduce compulsive behaviors.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Develop a different relationship with intrusive thoughts and commit to actions that align with your values.
Internal Family Systems (IFS): Heal emotional wounds by exploring and integrating new changes into your whole inner system: intellect, emotions, spirit, and body.
Why This Approach?
Years of treating OCD taught me ERP is not enough. Client after client would show up in my office worn out from “white knuckling it” trying to keep themselves from giving into compulsions while purposefully exposing themselves to their fears. This is no way to live! It’s hardly better than living with OCD.
Searching for a better way, I sought training in ACT. ACT focuses on developing resources to replace compulsions. The resources and skills are based in each clients unique value system.
My clients didn’t start getting better and relaxing until I integrated IFS into the treatment for OCD. IFS gives each client space to take on a nonjudgemental observer role for all obsessions and compulsions. Together we curiously discover what role each is doing for the system—often obsessions and compulsions are designed to protect. Until we discover and heal what they are protecting, they are not going to abandon their post!
Integrating all three treatment therapies yields the best results for clients. While we are exploring the system, gentle ERP exercises are designed to activate the system for further exploration. ACT is relied on to surround you with resources and a compass of values so you always know where you are going during the chaos of the change and healing process.
My goal is to help you find your own inner resources so you feel empowered to step out of OCD and into your life fully.
First Session
Tell me all about your history with OCD or suspected OCD. I want to know more about what has worked and not worked. What themes are currently bothering you? When did everything start?
What to Expect
Second Session
We will complete the Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive (Y-BOC) Assessment. I will use this assessment to understand which themes cause you the most anxiety. We can use this information to develop a gentle treatment plan.
Third Session
I will have a 3-page report illustrating your Y-BOC score with charts and images so you see your OCD cycle and root fears. You will keep this so you can refer to it whenever you need to during your treatment.
